Creative Spaces and Places

We were delighted when Linda James first knocked on our door asking if she could relieve us of as much waste banner and packaging material as we had, and even more interested into what she was actually going to do with it?? Well as well as being a local artist, one of Linda’s main passions is to engage with primary schools as part of the Creative Partnerships project.  Here she explores the subject of how can children’s knowledge of science and architecture impact on the design of creative learning environments and their own creative learning?

Linda also addresses the area of how and to what effect businesses like ours can engage with their local community, an issue already close to our hearts and a key area of our own corporate responsibility strategy.

So as the pictures demonstrate, our own passion for recycling has taken on a new angle and a further engagement for us in working with the local community.

For Linda, preventing materials from going to landfill is paramount, and our relationship has allowed her to develop an awareness of recycling on a bigger scale than otherwise might have been possible in terms of building large outdoor structures. It has also meant that the children she works with have changed their understanding of sustainability and how to use materials and make structures that are built to last!

The support, encouragement and materials from Allsigns has meant that as an artist working in other educational contexts I have had a ready supply of interesting materials to inspire scientists, teachers and young people. Linking up with Allsigns has also given us both the opportunity to extend the reach of our social responsibility work into other areas we have in common.
