Reducing our baseline emissions by 30% by 2013 is the headline target for the company to run in parallel with a series of carbon offset projects provided by The CarbonNeutral Company with whom we have once again renewed our carbon offset partnership.
We are now in our fifth year as a carbon neutral sign company, and our new carbon certification will tie in with our wider sustainability initiatives, and add weight to our journey towards ISO 14001 accreditation which we also hope to achieve early in 2009.
This time round we have 472 tonnes of C02 with our investment being channeled into a portfolio of resource conservation schemes (energy efficiency, methane recovery and low carbon fuel switches as examples) and renewable energy projects that seek to produce power from sources like wind, hydro, biomass, and waste products like biogas.
One specific project that will receive our support is the SELCO Solar Project where SELCO (the Solar Electric Light Company) designs and sells solar lighting systems in rural India. The systems replace kerosene lamps and the project aims to reduce emissions by 34,500 tCO2 between 2002-2012.
